Job Description
Provide an enthusiastic, approachable presence at the Lafayette Public Library service desks; promote books and reading to library customers of all ages; help to plan and conduct programs that promote literacy skills and develop reader’s services; and assist in the development and maintenance of our excellent collection of books , e-resources, and audiovisual materials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.
- Assist adults, teens, and children with material selection in the library;
- Plan and conduct library programs
- Accurately answer customers’ questions for educational and recreational needs using the resources of the library. Questions are answered in person, on the telephone or electronically
- Assist individuals and groups in locating and obtaining library materials; explain and assist with the use of equipment and reference sources, including the online catalog, automated reference tools, the Internet, printers, etc., and new technologies as they evolve.
- Promote reading, books, and library services through displays, readers advisory, programs, booklists, etc.
- Assist with selection of materials for the collection.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with Lafayette schools and community groups
- Plan and arrange workload and establish priorities to complete assigned work within parameters and deadlines assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain records of programs and services as required.;
- Participate in professional activities.
- Complete special projects as assigned
- Train volunteers & staff in techniques and procedures.
- Keep current on library trends and technology
- Perform related work as required and assigned.
Additional Info & Requirements
On call substitute position for a few months, we would prefer evenings and weekend availability
