Job Description

 Coordinate program operations.

  • Coordinates all aspects of the public art commissioning program including: executing the public art policy; planning for public art projects and budgets; coordination with project managers of other city agencies; writing public art implementation plans; managing the selection process; reporting for the approval process; working with the legal department on contracting; tracking budgets; managing contacts and supporting artists with fabrication and installation; documenting projects; working with other commissioning agencies such as the Federal and state governments.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the public art maintenance program including: managing the collection of public art; coordinating contracts with maintenance and conservation companies; coordinating asset management records and condition reporting.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the public art communications, interpretation, and legacy program including: coordinating public engagement projects; coordinating public events to celebrate art installations; developing and maintaining interpretation projects; maintaining relationships with artists and tracking copyright and ownership issues over time.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the city-wide mural program including: executing the private mural policy; processing the approval process for mural requests.
  • Supports the Manager in coordination of the neighborhoods and communities strategy, including: coordinating the Creative Neighborhoods Program in collaboration with the Neighborhood Services Office in providing grants, programs, and public art opportunities to neighborhood groups and leaders; assisting with diversity and underserved community initiatives.
  • Assists the Manager and other members of staff with the implementation of other components of the Community Cultural Plan.
  1. Serve as a liaison with the community.
  2. Share leadership on division, departmental, and city-wide task forces.
  3. Perform the administrative tasks necessary to the program.
  4. Keep skills and knowledge updated.
  5. Other tasks as assigned.
  • Support the Manager in services for the Boulder Arts Commission, other boards and commissions, and City Council including: writing reports, preparing and delivering presentations, and maintaining records as necessary.
  • Maintain relationships with stakeholders and community groups through correspondence, preparing public documents, attending or hosting community meetings, answering questions from the public, and excelling at customer service.
  • Support the Manager with promotional initiatives and media responses.
  • Participate in regional and national industry conferences and leadership gatherings.
  • Maintain records and documentation of projects.
  • Works within a budget and track expenditures
  • Manage contractors

Additional Info & Requirements

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Arts Administration or related field, or any combination of equivalent education/experience.  A minimum of two years of experience in a related position.  Ability to work tactfully and effectively with the public and stakeholders.  Ability to give verbal instructions and to inspect the work of contractors supervised.  Effective verbal and written communication skills.  General computer experience.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Have and maintain acceptable background information and motor vehicle record.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS – In addition to the required minimum qualifications
Experience working in a government organization.  Experience working with non-profit organizations, advocacy groups, and/or individual creative professionals.  Experience with promotional activities such as public speaking, writing, social media, traditional media, and/or advertising.  Experience specific to the above programmatic operation.
