Job Description
BROAD SCOPE OF POSITION: It is the mission of the Pikes Peak Library District to seek, engage, and transform lives through library services and resources that enrich individual lives and build community. This position operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill the mission of the Library by providing classroom-based English language instruction for adult patrons and by participating in community outreach events to promote PPLD and its English as a Second Language (ESL) services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Provides instruction for adult ESL classes
- Responsible for creation, maintenance and implementation of multi-level ESL curriculum.
- Administer learner intake and skills assessment; ensure correct initial student placement for appropriate instruction
- Instruct students in academic, life skill, and workplace curriculum based on individual skill assessment and need
- Plan and document daily outcomes, which correlate to long-range curriculum goals
- Supervise students individually or in groups as necessary with an emphasis on individual learning styles and ability to progress
- Maintain data collection on LACES (LiteracyPro Inc); maintain individual student records to include attendance, initial tests, and work samples
- Participate in PPLD staff meetings
- Complete monthly reports in a timely manner
- Inform the Adult Literacy Manager of needed materials and supplies.
- Attend Adult Literacy and ESL staff meetings, as well as teacher training sessions as assigned
- Complete periodic assessment and evaluation of learners’ skills acquisition
- Coach volunteers to assist with classroom activities and individual tutoring
- May represent PPLD and the Adult Literacy and ESL program at public events; use expertise in ESL instruction to advise PPLD staff
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Additional Info & Requirements
- A minimum of 1 year of classroom experience teaching English to adults as the primary instructor. Prefer two or more years of classroom experience teaching English to adults as the primary instructor, and candidates that have experience working with and/or supervising volunteers.
- Prefer ABE Certification or eligibility to acquire ABE Certification.
