Job Description
The Board of Trustees of the Skokie Public Library is seeking a high-energy leader with a commitment to quality service for a diverse community.
As “the heart of a vibrant village,” Skokie Public Library is an innovative library that continually seeks new and better ways to provide service to an increasingly urban suburb of 65,000. With a staff of 112 FTEs and an operating budget of more than $11 million, the library has the resources to provide excellent service - in the building, throughout the community, and online.
The library is largely funded by a dependable property tax in a municipality with “home rule” that is not subject to property tax caps. The library is governed by a supportive seven-member board of trustees that has policy and fiscal responsibility for the library and the services it provides. Board members are elected for six-year terms in consolidated April elections.
The Community
Located on the northern border of Chicago, Skokie is a suburban village with an urban fee. It boasts an award winning library, numerous parks, excellent schools and recreation services, a science and technology reserach campus, easily accessible public transportation, and convenient access to downtown Chicago.
