Job Description

Responsibilities (include but not limited to): • Installation and configuration of Solaris OS and patches on servers • Installation of hardware upgrades (disk, memory, etc) for in-house systems • Troubleshooting of systems problems and escalating problems to vendor • Tracking problems until resolution, including updates to trouble ticket system • Administers corporate e-mail system and junk mail filter • Works with manager to develop policies and best practices • Monitors systems and provides proactive support • Train and mentor call center staff on basic troubleshooting tools • Works with other team members to support a variety of servers with Solaris, Linux, and Windows operating systems. • Ability to work flexible hours as some system changes require after-hours work. • Requires accessibility by cell phone on a 24x7 basis, but is rarely called after hours. • Some travel to customer sites is required to perform installations or upgrades.

Additional Info & Requirements

This position is a member of an IT group that provides support for in-house IT infrastructure and customer sites on both Solaris and Windows server environments. Has primary responsibility for multiple in-house servers running Solaris and 2nd tier support of customer servers ranging from Ultra to E4900 servers. Requires 10-25% travel to customer sites for installation of servers, OS upgrades, or general support. Occasionally responds to after-hours emergencies. Current Sun System Administrator certifications required. This position reports to Manager, Customer Support • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline with 5 years systems experience. • Current Sun System Administrator certification (Solaris 9 required, 10 a plus). • Experience in administration of a heterogeneous server environment that includes Windows Server, Linux, and Solaris based systems. • Experience in managing Windows based domain is required. • Strong written, verbal and listening skills. • Experience in at least one of the following backup environments: Solaris Enterprise Backup, Tivoli, or Legato. • Solid understanding of networking, and standard network applications (ex: TCP/IP, ICMP, TraceRoute, TCPdump, etc.) is required. • Experience in writing and maintaining scripts. • Linux Administration experience a plus. • Fully functional in a MS Office environment, including VISIO, Project, Excel, and Word. • Must be a strong, independent worker and problem solver requiring little supervision or direction. • Thorough knowledge of PC operating systems and trouble shooting tools (i.e. PCAnywhere, CMS) • Ability to manage time to complete multiple concurrent projects as needed in an environment where priorities frequently change.
