Job Description

The CARL Software Trainer’s role is to deliver training to end users in the organization on the use of the various software applications that TLC develops. This includes all CARL products as well as LS2 PAC, Kids and Mobile. The role also extends to instructing users in following library policies and business processes, as developed by library and TLC stakeholders. This individual is responsible for designing, delivering, and improving in-house training programs, documentation and related courseware. 

Planning 

  • Coordinate with subject matter experts so that software applications and business processes are understood so that training is consistent and effective for confident use of the application
  • Collaborate with training customer and various departments/teams to setup training environment i.e. test data and training scenarios etc.
  • Assess, recommend, and support implementation of appropriate training tools and applications

Operational

  • Design, develop, and deliver software applications, training programs and individual classes
  • Present instructor-led training sessions in person or by web meeting process
  • Develop and deliver new courses for new and existing software applications
  • Review training materials and documentation and keep them up to date
  • Create and communicate training schedules in consultation with departmental decision makers
  • Create and administer training evaluations. Analyze results, make recommendations for training improvement, and integrate changes in curriculum and/or courses
  • Work with internal development teams, including product owners and subject matter experts, to keep apprised of changes and upcoming developments of our software applications
  • Communicate software problems and issues to software development and support teams
  • Collaborate project plans with Directors, Project Managers and/or Site Managers
  • When not training, provide assistance to the sales department, communications manager and review and update customer facing, software application documentation
  • Occasional (approximately 20%) Travel to training locations

Skills & Experience 

  • Proven experience with adult learning principles, methodologies, and course design techniques
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Ability to take initiative and work in a fast-paced, team-supported environment
  • Skill in building and maintaining relationships and fostering cooperation across a broad network of library staff and stakeholders
  • Thorough knowledge of problem solving techniques, particularly as they apply to large public library technical and service needs
  • Exceptional communication skills and demonstrated ability to create and present appropriate information to executive levels
  • Ability to make effective decisions and be understanding and supportive of customers’ product needs
  • Strong knowledge of library marketplace, industry and library operations.
  • Knowledge of trends in computer technology relating to library software and training
