Job Description

Role: Focuses on providing library services and programming for youth, answers patron requests for informaito and assistance, coordinates community programming and outreach events and acts as a staff resource. Major Duties and Responsibilities: 15% - PATRON ASSISTANCE - Assists patrons in the use of library materials and technology by guiding them in searching the catalog and stacks, accessing databases, and navigating the Internet in order to locate resources in the collection and on the World Wide Web. Major Duties and Responsibilities: 15% - INFORMATION NAVIGATION – Provides in-depth reference services and locates requested materials and information sources in order to satisfy patron requests for library materials and information. 40% - PROGRAMMING & OUTREACH - Plans informative and entertaining programs and outreach events such as school visits and computer classes for patrons by identifying and accessing audiences, recruiting attendees, accessing resources in the collection and the community and coordinating such programs and outreach events in order to promote use of library resources and represent the library district to the community. 15% - MATERIALS COLLECTION - Recommends additions to the collection, weeds and discards items in collection by assessing the condition and suitability of items, notifying the Collection Librarian of the discarded item in order to keep collection attractive, current and useful. 10% - STAFF RESOURCE – Acts as a resource for staff by providing in-depth reference assistance, reference consultation, mentoring and training of staff in providing reference and reader’s advisory services in order to provide dynamic services to patrons. 5% - OTHER DUTIES – Maintains and creates web content, creates displays, bibliographies, recommends budgets, requests equipment and supply purchases, prepares statistical reports, acts as Person In Charge (PIC), and assists Supervisor with projects in order to ensure the smooth operation of the department & library.

The Community

The Weld Library District is seeking a Librarian with a passion for working with youth. This position, located in the Farr Regional Library, will work in all areas of this full-service library and will have a focus on serving the youth in the community. This part-time position with paid leave benefits requires an MLS/MLIS or currently enrolled in program/committed to completing degree program and experience in professional public library work. A flexible schedule is required which includes some evening and weekends in support of public service hours. Our focus is on providing quality public service by assisting library patrons with their information needs and by planning, developing and implementing library programs and services responsive to the library clientele.
