Job Description

The Access Services unit of Reed Library exists to provide services to the Fort Lewis College community and the general public, including delivering information, assistance resolving patron service difficulties, and assistance with requested and returned materials.


Duties:

Provides patron services to members of the Fort Lewis College community and other library patrons, including all supervisory functions of the circulation module in the Integrated Library System (III Sierra), material retrieval, patron registration process, back up to interlibrary loan and Prospector reciprocal borrowing, assessing and negotiating fines and reductions in fines. Provide technical assistance with computer, copiers,printers, scanners, etc. Responsible for monitoring patron activities and condition of the library building during specific hours, including Sundays-Thursday until 10:00 p.m. Evening will include extended hours to 12:00 a.m. on days prior to and during midterm and final exam periods. Responsible for securing the library building at closing, reporting needed repairs and problems, and enacting emergency management procedures as needed. Performs cash management daily by reconciling cash and receipts each night and prepares cash deposit. Responsible for appearance and functionality of library stacks, including sorting, reserve, and storage areas. Provide instruction for and assignment and monitoring of student tasks including customer service, shelving, statistics gathering, cleaning, recycling, projects, digital repository metadata, etc. Creates and evaluates work lists for students and participates in worker evaluation process.Supervising shelving activities, including shelf reading and shifting projects, including proposing needed shifts. Creates accurate and current range tags and generates needed statistics. Under the direction of the Access Services Librarian and the Library Director, participates in digital repository metadata creation, weeding projects, etc.

Work schedule is as follows:


Fall and Spring semesters:  Sunday – Thursday, 1:00 – 10:00 p.m.
Summer semester: Monday – Friday 11:00 a.m.– 8:00 p.m.
Exam periods during fall/spring semesters (pre-midterm exams week, midterm exams week, pre-final exams week, final exams weeks): 3:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

Additional Info & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
One year of general library experience including typing, ordering, preparing, shelving, and maintaining library materials. Some positions may require specific skills and familiarity with library routines and procedures. If your experience is part time it will be prorated.

Preferred Qualifications
Work experience in an academic library
Working knowledge of the Library of Congress call number system
Circulation desk experience
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Supervisory experience

Required Competencies
Strong customer service skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Flexibility in work hours is a must to accommodate mid-terms and final exams
