Job Description

Under the supervision of the Technical Services Manager, this position is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of the library’s computer systems. The position is also responsible, when not involved with IT matters, in assisting the Branch Librarian in performing librarian duties and basic clerical duties associated with a library.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to providing excellent customer service at the circulation desk, assisting patrons and assisting in general library operations.  Performs other duties as required.                                                                                                                                                                                          

Principal job duties:

  • Under general supervision, performs a variety of computer systems administration and support tasks, including analyzing, constructing, documenting, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting and supporting of PC hardware, operating systems, software applications, peripherals, and communication devices for the entire organization. 
  • Assist with the production of the newsletter and marketing materials.
  • Performs a variety of project tasks and requires good communications skills with the ability to work with staff and patrons diplomatically and skillfully.
  • Assist patrons in locating, selecting and researching of materials, both in print and on-line sources.  Refer patrons to additional resources as necessary.  Assist patrons in the use of computers, library equipment and the Public Access Catalog.
  • Handle the duties of the circulation desk such as, but not limited to checking out and renewing materials, checking in returned materials and collecting fines if necessary, issuing and/or renewing library cards and maintaining attendance records.
  • May be asked to train other staff or patrons on the use of technology ranging from devices to the 3D printer.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

This is an entry level position requiring a level of knowledge and ability to independently accomplish tasks and solve problems of typical complexity in a consistent and accurate manner and in a variety of situations. Some experience preferred.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

High school diploma. Associate Degree preferred. Some technical experience required.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Requires good communications skills with the ability to work with users diplomatically and skillfully. Must have strong typing and computer skills.  Must be proficient in reading and writing English, and in applying library rules and procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to perform the following physical activities: standing for long periods of time, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.  Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.  Hearing voice conversations is essential to safe and effective job performance.  Clear vision at 20 inches or less and up to 20 feet or more. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in an office environment.  Work may include walking, standing, bending, lifting, and keyboarding.  Hearing voice conversation is essential to safe and effective job performance.  Clear Creek County Library District provides reasonable job-related accommodations for disabled persons.

The Community

Clear Creek County is in the mountains about 30-45 minutes west of Denver, depending on how fast you drive. It includes Georgetown, Idaho Springs, and parts of Evergreen. This is a community used to fabulous library service.
