Job Summary

Excitement and adventure await you as you join the CCU Library team.  Our team of five plus student staff serves approximately 1,300 traditional undergraduates and 6,000 adult and distance learners in a dynamic and growing academic library. The library offers a creative and friendly environment that focuses on student and faculty support.  We are a flexible team that embraces new technology and user demands to provide excellent library service.  Colorado Christian University is a growing institution that is building a new campus in Lakewood and the library team is excited to move the library forward as well. The ideal candidate has strong collaboration skills and commitment to teamwork, is flexible and adaptable, is self-motivated and self-directed, balances creativity and practicality, takes initiative and follows through on projects.

The Library Assistant is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position in the CCU Library.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Student Supervision :
    • Oversees daily work flow of student employees including the assignment of tasks and projects
    • Student Staff scheduling
    • Student Staff/Work study student recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and terminating
    • Training and performance evaluation
    • Standard procedures creation and management
    • Technical Writing: employee handbook, draft procedures and instructions
    • Evaluates processes and work flow for efficiency and improvement
    • Budgeting (student staff)
    • Plans ahead for upcoming changes
  2. Circulation and Stacks Management :
    • Provides all regular patron services and transactions, including light reference help
    • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of Sierra 2.0 ILS
    • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of Marmot, Prospector, MOBIUS, and CLiC Courier common operations and practices
    • Circulation Desk Oversight including:
      • Patron transaction troubleshooting
      • Fines payments & forgiveness discernment
      • Conflict resolution
      • Circulation Training
    • Manage the Reference and Circulating stacks, including shelving, maintenance and cleaning, signage, general tidiness, and ease of access
    • Manage circulation projects including shelf-reading, shifting, and inventories
    • Evaluate items as needed for repair, deletion, or replacement
    • Manage overdue reports and select monthly INN-Reach Reports
    • Attend Prospector Document Delivery meetings as needed
  3. Administrative Assistance/Office Management :
    • Paying invoices
    • Technical Troubleshooting (Printers, Copy/Scan), liaison to IT department
    • Special Events: planning, organizing, supplies, advertising, etc.
    • Annual Databases Statistic reports
    • Create and assist with managing Power Point slide presentations for video shows
    • Monitor and order office supplies
    • Submit and track maintenance work orders
    • General advertising, signage, Daily E-News announcements
    • Organize department documents
    • Manage other statistical reports as requested
    • E-Resources support: Serials Solutions, website editing, online appointment software and room reservation software/LibCal
    • Create original content for website or special projects as needed
  4. Library Systems Assistance :
    • Interlibrary Loan assistance: request forwarding, item distribution and return, overdues
    • Manage Print Journals check-in, missing items, display, and back issues
    • Reserves assistance
    • Managed the Booksale and promotional events
    • Event preparation, buying and help hosting
    • Archives support
    • Assist Collection Development through select item purchasing
    • Assist the librarians on projects and tasks
    • Donation Receiving and Processing
    • Time management, planning, awareness of campus deadlines and procedures and the ability to set priorities are critical to the success of this position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Associates or bachelors degree
  2. Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, time management, and communication skills
  3. Proven attention to detail and ability to balance multiple tasks in a timely manner
  4. Proficient typing and Microsoft Office Suite capabilities
  5. Strong English skills; spelling, grammar, and punctuation are critical
  6. Attentive to customer service and working in a team environment
  7. Preferred supervisory experience
  8. Library experience a plus (can include an internship or practicum)
  9. An understanding of standard library procedures
  10. Marketing or Public Relations experience and a flair for writing brief announcements
  11. Familiarity with the Sierra ILS system a plus

Nature of Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to walk; stand; sit; climb stairs; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; speak with clarity, have appropriate vision including close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus, and hearing capabilities. Requires sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and conducting phone conversations for extended periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Will be required to work occasional irregular hours, including some nights and weekends.

  3. Regularly attend and be engaged in meaningful involvement in a Bible-believing evangelical local church. Knowledgeable about the Word of God and passionate about Christian education.
  4. Must be a traditional evangelical Christian whose lifestyle is in consonance with sound Christian principles, is compatible with CCU’s Statement of Faith, and is in agreement with the Strategic Objectives promulgated by the University.
