Job Description

Duties: This position manages all daily operations of the Access Services department, including arranging adequate coverage of service points for all open hours. Supports the Access Services librarian in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating other full-time classified staff in the department. Manages department schedules to ensure adequate coverage. Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, regularly evaluating, and, if needed, terminating student employees working in the department, with input and feedback from Access Services Librarian and other full-time Access Oversees daily operations of Circulation department including Reserve, Stacks Management, Bookings, Holds, Faculty Delivery, assigning and evaluating daily and ongoing tasks. Responsible, in coordination with Access Services Librarian, for maintaining accuracy and currency of patron data in the integrated library system. Responsible for lost and missing procedures, and works with collections management librarian to secure replacements as needed. Responsible for coordinating billing and collections with A/R office in a timely manner. Ensures daily notices and reports are running. Maintains fluency in all circulation and reserve functions in ILS as well as "on the fly" cataloging. Works with librarians and other staff to ensure effective and efficient library operations related to materials handling and circulation. Performs as needed all circulation / reserve functions including performing stacks maintenance, cataloging and removing reserve items, etc. Works with other departments within the library to coordinate student hiring and training, and arranging for backup coverage for interlibrary loan and Prospector reciprocal borrowing functions. Maintains current and complete training, policy, and procedural manuals for all processes and events related to the unit. Develops online and/or self-paced training modules on department functions and excellent customer service. Provides, in conjunction with other department personnel, back up for night and weekend coverage. Provides and models excellent customer service. Provides, information, policy interpretation, and negotiation / resolution for patron complains and issues, including fines. Refers reference questions and patron complains as needed. Provides technical assistance to patrons using library technology and machinery. Ensures that the library facility is secure, clean, safe, and functional for students and other patrons. Works with outside departments as needed to effect that. Maintains orderly and correctly organized physical collections, including storage areas and participating in weeding and shifting projects. Participates in Space Team. Implements space utilization statistical gathering. Participates in Outreach team. Supervises and participates in digital repository metadata projects. Works with Access Services Librarian to assess department functions and services.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of general library experience involving typing, ordering, preparing, shelving, and maintaining library materials including two years of technical library experience involving cataloging/classifying, providing reference and patron services, and creating/revising procedures.
Please note: If your work experience is part time, it will be pro-rated.

Preferred Qualifications
Work experience in an academic library public services unit
Working knowledge of the Library of Congress call number system
Circulation desk experience
Stacks management experience
Working knowledge of the Circulation Module of the III Sierra Integrated Library System
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (please note on your application your years of experience)

Two years of course work from an accredited college or university including twelve semester hours of library science course work may substitute for two years of the general library experience. You must have library coursework on your transcript in order to qualify for this substitution.
