Job Description

20% Liaisons with Spanish community groups and facilitates partnerships with community service agencies by meeting with representatives and encouraging community participation in the library in order to promote use of library services to Spanish language patrons. 20% Selects library materials in Spanish by researching vendors, previewing materials, negotiating prices, preparing purchase order requests, and reviewing invoices for accuracy; and, advises on the cataloging and processing of such materials by creating guidelines in order to make collections of materials in Spanish available to Library District patrons. 25% Produces library programs for Spanish speaking patrons by assessing needs, developing or coordinating English language programs and services for non-English speakers, and evaluating results in order to promote English literacy and the use of library resources. 10% Serves patrons by translating library programs and materials, and researching genre and format areas in order to satisfy patron requests for materials and programs in Spanish. 15% Prepares lists of materials and identifies links to other websites by researching patron interests in order to supply content for the website. 10% Develops the knowledge, skill and ability of paraprofessional staff by mentoring them in order expand their ability to service requests from non-English speaking patrons.

The Community

Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, an Outreach Service that provides mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
