Job Description

Jefferson County Public Library is looking for a Public Services Manager who believes in the values of innovation, accountability and excellence – A leader who is passionate about providing public library service that builds an educated and vibrant community. It also means being up-to-date on current trends in the profession and being an advocate for libraries and for a new kind of patron experience. A Public Services Manager is both a coach and role model for staff creating an environment that reflects JCPL's values of serving with care, welcoming all, meeting people where they are, giving them full attention, and exceeding their expectations.

Under the direction of the Director of Public Services, this position will not only manage the beautiful Golden Library but will also manage system-wide services for our Patron Experience. This Manager will be a leader in achieving Library objectives by planning, implementing, and leveraging system resources to their full potential. This position is accountable for a consistent quality customer experience across all our locations. They manage daily operations of the Golden Library and system-wide development and delivery of the Patron Experience. The Public Services Manager manages/audits system resources with budgetary and decision-making authority over those resources. They manage/supervise staff under their area of responsibility.  There is responsibility for creating partnerships and relationships in the community through outreach. This position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119, and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association, as well as ADA governing public access to space and technology. Reports to Director of Public Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Recruits, assesses, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates Library staff.
  • Directly supervises 3 to 5 supervisors and/or coordinators.
  • Designs and implements new efficiencies and experiments with new ways to accomplish work in public libraries, particularly in the area of the Patron Experience.
  • Uses established industry benchmarks to determine gaps in service provision and quality at the Golden Library and in the Patron Experience system-wide.
  • Develops metrics, performance measurement and goal setting at the Golden Library and for the Patron Experience system-wide.
  • Creates a flexible environment for implementing new library services and leads tactical plan initiatives through project management.
  • Communicates expectations and collaborates with others in cross-functional teams to accomplish strategic goals and objectives.
  • Serves as a member of the Public Services Management Team to develop overall strategy, tactical objectives, and short and long-term planning for deployment of resources.
  • Directs work groups, monitors assignments to their completion and works with multiple levels of staff, assuring alignment with strategic plan.
  • Works in direct patron contact 4-8 hours per month.
  • Spokesperson responsible for delivery of Library's message to internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrates advanced skill in using computers and electronic resources.
  • Accountable for budget planning and expenditures.
  • Resolves customer service issues, routinely makes decisions on policy enforcement including dealing with law enforcement and first responders. 

Additional Info & Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years Library experience is preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Basic computer and technical skills appropriate for the position.
  • Intermediate reading, writing, and math skills.
