Job Description

 The Adult Services Librarian connects people to the information, ideas, tools and skills they need to prosper and succeed in a rapidly changing technological environment.  Designs and implements programs and services that foster lifelong learning and that bring people together with shared interests. Actively promotes use and value of library resources and services. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Provides assistance to guests using library-supported technologies and resources and offers basic training in the use of new and emerging devices and digital resources. Guides people to information and resources that meet their individual needs. Stays abreast of new publications, information resources, and creative works in a wide variety of formats. 

Designs, delivers and evaluates programs, services and experiences that bring people together with shared interests and needs.

Understands and is knowledgeable about the City of Englewood and the surrounding community. Cooperates and builds partnerships with schools, businesses, other city departments, civic and community groups to leverage library assets. 

Creatively promotes and markets library resources, programs and services. 

Acts as a resource for non-professional staff through consultation, mentoring and training. Actively pursues professional development opportunities and participates in professional organizations

Other Duties & Responsibilities

May recruit, train and coordinate volunteer activities.

May support local history information, programming and collection development.

May design and deliver programming and outreach for Teen/YA population. 

May represent the library at community or professional events and meetings. May act as Person in Charge in the absence of supervisors, ensuring clear communication and safety of staff and patrons.

May assist staff in other service areas as needed, including Children's Services and Circulation, to ensure effective library operation and seamless patron service. 

May help maintain up-to-date information on policies and procedures for both patron and staff access.  Ensures work area, equipment and supplies are well maintained

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Education:       Masters of Library Science or Masters of Library and Information Science degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.

Work Experience:       Minimum of two years' experience in a public library environment required.  Experience with program design, evaluation and delivery highly preferred.
