Job Description

The Library Specialist, Outreach Services identifies, coordinates and oversees library outreach opportunities within the University and Hays community. Forsyth Library seeks an enthusiastic, motivated and service-focused professional to plan, coordinate and support the library’s outreach activities and special events.  The outreach specialist is the primary liaison from the library to campus student outreach events and to student life.  The specialist oversees all library social media accounts, portions of the library web site, building signage and wayfinding, exhibits and displays, publicity, and evaluation of library sponsored-events.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for library outreach and implement appropriate programming for events.
  • Act as the library's primary liaison with student life units, paying close attention to services and outreach to student diversity organizations and special populations.
  • Support librarian creation of teaching materials used for library instruction.
  • Plan and create public displays and exhibitions that feature library collections and services.
  • Create a compelling public face and consistent branding for the library through publications, social media, and the library's web presence.
  • Develop an ongoing marketing and publicity plan for the library focused on building awareness and increasing use of library services.
  • Develop and maintain library signage, wayfinding, and finding aids for materials.
  • Create informational and promotional print and digital materials.
  • Develop an annual budget for programs, publications, exhibitions and marketing.
  • Promote the library using traditional and social media.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Communications or related discipline.
  • Experience marketing with social media platforms.
  • Experience with web design and content development.
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to providing excellent public service.
  • Experience with project management and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in an academic library.
  • Experience using graphic design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite to create marketing materials and/or publications.
  • Experience planning and implementing programing for libraries or academic groups.
  • Experience with photography and/or videography.
  • Ability to visualize, design and implement engaging and interactive displays across library physical and digital spaces.
  • Ability to work effectively with and provide service for a diverse academic community.
  • Ability to solve practical problems in a creative fashion.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
