Job Description

If you have experience in marketing, communications, writing, editing and/or journalism and are looking for an opportunity to represent an impactful public organization through digital and print media, this may be the job for you!

The Communications Team is responsible for creating and implementing Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) communication strategies; communicating the priorities, policies, programs and actions of the Library; serving as official spokesperson; maintaining community relations; developing and implementing integrated promotions and marketing programs across multiple channels; and managing all in-house graphic design and print production activities.  We are looking for a new team member to provide high quality, innovative communications. They will utilize public communication strategies and methods to educate and inform the community in addressing issues and initiatives.  This will include the use of digital and print multi-media channels. The ability to monitor, assess and research response data will also be a part of this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Consult with the Programs and Marketing Manager to develop appropriate public information methods and techniques.
  • Prepare, write and disseminate a variety of internal and external communications as requested.
  • Research, write and edit a variety of printed and electronic materials, including news releases, newsletters, web pages, reports, announcements and other publications.  
  • Write materials in a clear and interesting fashion utilizing precise journalistic style.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of Internet website and social media platforms.
  • Participate in continuing education/training in web development and communication technology.
  • Plan and coordinate activities including conferences, public and media events designed to promote topics, programs and partnerships within the Library and community.
  • Respond to inquiries received through various communication paths in a timely manner providing information and directing questions to appropriate staff.

Additional Info & Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of demonstrated experience in marketing and communications is required.
  • Excellent communication, writing, editing skills required.
  • Comprehensive, practical knowledge of technical skills as appropriate for this position is required.
  • Experience working with a Library or other government organization is highly desirable.
