Job Description

Performs mid-level professional duties under the general direction of the Technology and Innovation Manager. Supervises Technical Services.
The salary range for this position is $20.44 - $29.66 hourly with an expected hiring range of $20.44- $25.05 depending on qualifications and experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Primary responsibilities are to catalog new books and/or media (CDs, DVDs, eBooks, etc.) and to supervise 2 FTE Technical Services staff.  Cataloging is performed using an Internet-based cataloging utility, the library computer software, and a PC, as well as Dewey Decimal System classification schedules, AACRII, RDA and MARC manuals.  Maintains integrity of bibliographic database and improves quality of the records in the catalog to ensure that accurate information is displayed to the public. Works on cross references and authority control as needed. Attends professional meetings and training opportunities, as appropriate, and shares information with supervisor and library staff. Provides written monthly personal production report to supervisor. Manages division budget. Orders division supplies. Assists in training new staff and volunteers. Instructs library staff on cataloging standards and procedures. Attends monthly Flatirons Library Consortium (FLC) meetings and complies with all FLC cataloging rules. Provides excellent customer serve and high-quality work. Works with library management team to develop and manage the library's materials budget. Uses community input and utilization trends to analyze collection trends. Uses data analysis tools for decision-making.
 
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Serves on various library and/or City committees on an ad hoc basis.
 
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
Supervises all Technical Services staff. Assists in the training and supervision of the volunteers who do mending and complete the final processing of new materials. 

Knowledge, skills & abilities:
Knowledge of standard descriptive cataloging procedures, MARC cataloging formats, Library of Congress subject and genre headings, and the Dewey Decimal classification system. Knowledge of current trends in cataloging.  Ability to work independently as well as with others. Interpersonal skills to direct the work of volunteers. Ability to organize workflow without close supervision and to perform detailed data entry accurately. Familiarity with ITS MARC Online, a cataloging utility, and the text-based cataloging module from Innovative Interfaces Inc. specifically Sierra highly desirable.

Education and/or experience:
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Librarianship preferred. Two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred. Two (2) years Librarian I level experience in technical services area in an automated library required.  Master's degree in librarianship may substitute for experience.

This is light physical work in a library/office setting where the incumbent may sit in front of a computer monitor much of the time. Some standing and bending as well as lifting of boxes up to 25 pounds and pushing carts of up to 50 pounds is required. Requires the placement and retrieval of materials on library shelves, which are located from 5 inches to 80 inches above the floor. Required to visually scan computer screens and library materials to locate the necessary information.
