POSITION TITLE:   Branch Manager   EXTERNAL TITLE: Branch Manager - Collbran
                    
POSITION DESCRIPTION:  Provides library service to all patrons as needed 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Works under the direct supervision of the Head of Branch Services 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:  Volunteers

FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIP: Plateau Valley Friends of the Library, Collbran Book Group  
     
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

Service to Library Customers:
Provide library service upon demand, issue library cards, check out materials, answer reference questions, place holds, locate material and information using the print collection and online resources. Provide basic instruction on the use of the library catalog, online databases, PC reservation, and the Internet. Respond to routine patron inquiries concerning library procedures and policies; Provide staffing coverage at other library locations and branches as requested. Work with staff throughout the library district to improve and provide outstanding library service to all patrons. 

Oversees Branch Operations:
Ensure that all materials are checked in, sorted and shelved. Establish branch priorities so that all holds, paging slips, item lists and missing media are promptly and correctly completed. Order branch supplies as needed, update the wiki and gather and report statistic as needed. Merchandise the collection, create book displays, and maintain an inviting well organized library. Oversee the branch collection by rotating materials regularly, pulling outdated and worn items and making suggestions for collection development. Coordinate and provide library programs, outreach and special events. Maintain a working knowledge and basic understanding of all MCL services, programs and events. Develop community partnerships to facilitate programming and increased awareness of library services. Address and communicate all building, maintenance and security issues to the proper personnel. 

Maintains self-development and keeps up-to-date on Library affairs:
Attends monthly staff meetings and trainings at the Central Library; attends external trainings as requested, stays aware of changes via staff wiki.

Performs other duties as assigned or requested:
Performs additional duties as opportunities arise that assist the department and the Library in achieving specified goals and objectives including scheduled shifts at various Library locations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, and ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge and current awareness of library policies and procedures
Knowledge of alphabetical and Dewey Decimal filing systems
Knowledge of Internet resources and basic searching techniques
Knowledge of standard safety practices
Skill in understanding and applying oral, written, illustrated or demonstrated instructions
Skill in observing groupings and identifying misplaced items when shelving materials
Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer
Ability to operate a variety of library equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Ability to effectively use all office technology available
    
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to remain standing or bending for extended periods of time    
Ability to maneuver about the library in a timely fashion
Ability to bend to floor level or reach a height of 75 inches
Ability to push movable carts loaded to a maximum of 250 pounds.
Ability to read a minimum print size equal to 10 point
Ability to tolerate dust, mold, etc. that may have accumulated on books.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Subject to many interruptions. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education or training associated with the completion of a two-year degree in college, vocational or technical school courses of study related to the area of assignment, and two (2) years' previous library experience or retail customer service experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
