Job Description

Patron Experience Associates at JCPL provide frontline library service to the diverse and growing residents of Jefferson County and beyond.  You will provide quality library resources and exemplary customer service.  Helping people find what they need - whether it be what to read next, how to download an ebook, or how to find a job - is what we do all day, every day.  It is a fast-paced environment where the needs of the customer come first.
 
If you are a dynamic, customer-focused, creative individual with an aptitude for technology and who enjoys serving the public and would love to work in the Lakewood Library, then this may be the job for you!  This position requires bilingual speaking, reading and writing skills in English/Spanish to help us serve our community needs.

Essential duties:

  • Routinely provides direct customer service.
  • Uses high-level customer service skills to determine patron needs and create a positive, inviting atmosphere.
  • Provides information, referrals, and reader's advisory assistance to patrons in person, by phone, mail, and via electronic means.
  • Addresses and resolves complaints from patrons or forwards complaints to appropriate staff as necessary.
  • Performs simple to moderately complex research activities.
  • Locates materials through the use of electronic databases in JCPL, other library systems, and other sources.
  • Provides library instruction and patron education to the public, individually, and in groups.
  • Promotes and presents programs, classes, workshops, and activities at library locations and off-site, including seasonal programs and Storytime for children.
  • As needed, specializes in service to specific market segments (Children, Teens, Adults, Seniors).
  • Frequently uses new technology in daily duties and to support patrons with new software, hardware, and mobile devices.
  • Creates content for the web and social media as needed.
  • Under supervision, assists in the development and maintenance of existing collection, instructional tools, databases and reader's advisory materials.
  • Position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119, and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association, as well as ADA.

Additional Info & Requirements

  • Must be available to work days, some evenings, every other weekend, and holidays as required.
  • Offer of employment contingent on criminal history check, education verification and Spanish language competency test.
  • Bilingual speaking, reading and writing skills in English/Spanish.
  • Minimum of one year direct customer service experience preferred.
  • Basic computer and technical skills appropriate for the position.
  • Intermediate reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Some public library experience preferred.
