Job Description

Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library invites applications or nominations for the position of Associate Library Director. The person sought for this position will participate in a wide range of library management functions including user outreach, reference, and collection management. This position offers an opportunity to combine advanced knowledge of scholarly resources in theology with service to students and scholars. Managing digital resources, including selection and acquisition of content, access, and evaluation of emerging technologies, will be a particular responsibility of this position. Archabbey Library has a staff of four and is a member of the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI), a highly innovative and collaborative library consortium. The Associate Director will work closely with PALNI in developing and managing Archabbey Library resources and services. Archabbey Library supports the bibliographic needs of Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology as well as Saint Meinrad monastery.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in religion or theology with significant library experience or MLS with significant advanced study of theology or related subjects
  • Experience working with library resources supporting theological education or research
  • Understanding of scholarly resources supporting the study of religion and theology
  • Interest in and experience with managing and/or developing digital resources
  • Willingness to engage in user support and outreach
  • Ability to articulate a vision for theological library collecting in print and digital resources
  • Ability to assist with technical services, library systems, and collection management
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Understanding of Catholic tradition and commitment to Catholic seminary formation

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of one or more modern or ancient languages used in theological research

Archabbey library serves Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, a Catholic seminary, and Saint Meinrad Archabbey, a Benedictine monastery in southern Indiana.
