Duties and Responsibilities: Provides archival arrangement for manuscript collections; determines priorities based on content and condition of documents; describes materials according to content and physical characteristics and creates original finding aids. Performs research and analysis of library materials. Creates original catalog records for manuscript collections. This person will be involved in the Encoded Archival Description process. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of on-line information retrieval methods. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, organizations and the public. Skill in independently adapting, interpreting and applying written guidelines, precedents and standardized work practices to a variety of unprecedented or problematic situations. Skill in obtaining information relative to the work; exercising initiative, judgment, and decision making in solving problems and meeting organizational objectives. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work with a diverse group of people. Has experience in performing historical research. Experience Two years of work in a library. Special Requirements: Applicant needs to demonstrate knowledge of archival practices and procedures.
