Job Description

This is professional library work which involves the adult, children, or extension services (subject departments and technical processes) of the library.  Work includes allocating funds, formulating policies, solving administrative problems, and recommending the hiring and firing of subordinate staff.

Job Duties:

Directs the adult, children or extension services within the library system by formulating library policies and procedures, establishing goals and objectives and participating in problem solving and long range planning.
 
Oversees the administration of the automated catalog and circulation system to include monitoring and negotiating system contracts, loading updates to the software, and addressing system malfunctions.
 
Approves and coordinates the selection and purchase of materials for the library system for effective use of library funds.
 
Oversees the cataloging and bindery functions of the library.
 
Recommends the hiring and firing of library personnel and directs the evaluates the work of subordinate professional, para-professional and clerical personnel engaged in providing library services.
 
Participates in the allocation and administration of the library materials budget by analyzing fiscal reports and evaluating library needs.
 
Administers contract compliance for cleaning services and lawn care and snow removal operations.
 
Attends conferences and meetings to stimulate interest in the use of the library and to acquire additional professional knowledge; attends book selection and managers’ meetings.
 
Performs the duties of subordinate library staff when necessary.
 
Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.

Additional Info & Requirements

The examination will consist of a structured interview which will be scheduled at a later date.  The structured interview is designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. The final eligibility list will be assembled from those candidates achieving a passing score of 60% on the structured interview (100% weight).
