Job Description
*Grows Collection by acceptance of new materials - Accessioning, logging in, organizing and cataloging.
*Serves Patrons - Answers inquiries concerning field materials received from internal personnel and outside users.
*Serves Patrons - Main Library Reference Desk
*Accepts new deposits; determines appropriateness of offered material by following guidelines and policies of National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
*Compiles inventories of individual deposits following NARA guidelines
*Readies deposits for transfer to NARA, including the following:
*Eliminating inappropriate material from individual deposits (i.e. published materials, personal papers, maps without annotations, etc.)
*Updating existing inventories to eliminate references to weeded items
*Boxing deposits for transfer according to NARA guidelines
*Physically transferring deposits to Denver NARA Develops database to reflect what has been transferred to NARA
*Maintains updates for the Field Records Webpage
Additional Info & Requirements
The Field Records Collection consists of; archive of field notes, correspondences, unpublished manuscripts and maps, analysis reports and other data created or collected by USGS scientists, who are not retired or deceased. Also includes materials by current USGS geologist who are done with certain projects.Preferred:
Master Library Science
Required:
Earth Science or geology background
