Job Description
Seton Hall University Libraries invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track library faculty position. We seek an enterprising, enthusiastic, service-oriented individual who will work collaboratively with the library faculty to provide leadership and operational management of our busy Instruction Program. Working closely with the Assistant Dean for Public Services, the Coordinator of Instruction will be responsible for a programmatic approach to information literacy education and assessment. This person will work collaboratively to set instruction priorities in alignment with the Libraries’ Strategic Plan, take the initiative in investigating new trends and information literacy instruction models, and maintain and develop instruction and assessment strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The successful candidate, in addition to coordinating library instruction, will lead the development of instructional materials and methods for traditional, online, hybrid, or other forms of instruction. The candidate will also take the lead in promotion and scheduling of library instruction in collaboration with teaching faculty. Other responsibilities include participation in reference (in person and virtual), liaison work, and collection development in an appropriate area of expertise. The Coordinator of Instructor will make significant professional contributions to the University Libraries, a major campus center and teaching-learning facility actively involved in student learning and a hub for public and campus engagement, thus supporting the overall mission of the University.
- Provide leadership and oversee logistical aspects of delivering instruction in face-to-face and other modes; help incorporate various technology formats (e.g., streaming video) into instruction/learning objects; teach instruction sessions.
- Head assessment of learning outcomes and information literacy competencies taking into account the range of student levels.
- Collaborate with library and teaching faculty to integrate appropriate information literacy competencies, concepts, and skills into assignments and course content.
- Partner with other library and University units as needed to support instruction.
- Deliver excellent library services and prioritize needs in a busy, dynamic environment.
- Provide reference assistance, in a variety of formats, to the University community and beyond.
- Perform liaison and collection development work as assigned.
- Prioritize multiple tasks and works productively in a team-based environment.
- Contribute to the scholarly communication efforts of the University Libraries.
Required Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information studies.
- Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in work relevant to this position.
- Experience in information literacy instruction and its assessment.
- Evidence of effective outreach and delivery of programming to key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and creatively in a collaborative and complex environment
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Analytical abilities and data visualization skills that will allow incumbent to report on instruction efforts; fluency with MS Excel or other reporting tools.
- Ability to work effectively with and enjoy assisting faculty, students, colleagues, and community members in a diverse, multicultural setting.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects.
- Strong patron service skills and the commitment to serve students, faculty, and staff.
- Commitment to librarianship, scholarship, and service, which are stated requirements for tenure within the University and University Libraries.
- A second master’s degree or doctorate is required for tenure.
- Ability to support the Catholic mission of the University.
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of current developments and trends in instructional technologies strongly preferred.
- Coursework or professional experience with instructional design, learning theory, and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Second master’s degree or doctorate.
