Job Description

This is a unique opportunity for a progressive, experienced library professional to join a dedicated staff in managing an exceptional library system in California’s beautiful wine country. Nearly 200 employees focus on serving the Sonoma County community at the library’s 15 branches. Annually, nearly 90,000 people attend library events and borrow more than 3 million items. 

The ideal candidate is a: skilled leader who demonstrates outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; proven analytical program management experience and a commitment to professional development for staff. A strategic thinker skilled in strategic planning and tactical implementation who makes sound decisions under pressure. A communicator who provides timely, accurate, and relevant information on critical issues to library commission, staff, stakeholders, and the public and is able to develop and communicate a shared vision of library services. And, a relationship builderwho acts with a high level of integrity and honesty to develop relationships based on trust and mutual respect; is able to work collaboratively with library commission, staff and other key stakeholders to achieve the library’s mission; and, is customer service-oriented and committed to diversity, inclusion and authentic community engagement. 

A Bachelor’s degree and a graduate library degree from an ALA accredited school plus ten years’ experience in a public library with at least six years in supervisory positions is expected. Experience in managing an independent library district and managing in a union and multi-branch environment preferred. Bilingual skill in Spanish is preferred.
