Job Description

1. Develops the branches’ short and long-range plans of service with assistance of the Associate Director. Develops operating procedures for the branch. Communicates and implements outreach and PPLD policies and procedures. 2. Supervises Assistant Branch Manager, Branch Children’s Specialist, and Branch Assistants including hiring, counseling, training, and evaluating performance. Hires all branch staff. Develops goals and strategies for staff development and training to enable branch staff to provide excellent service. Provides leadership, guidance, direction and assistance to all branch staff. 3. Works at public desks assisting patrons in person and over the telephone. Provides reader’s advisory, reference services, research assistance, performs in-depth searches and bibliographic identification. Offers directional assistance and information about the library, its services, policies, and procedures. Refers patrons to outside resources and collections when appropriate. Assists in circulation duties when necessary. Maintains confidentiality in all patron interactions. Works in evening and Saturday rotations at branches and in the Monument Branch Sunday rotations. 4. Develops and implements a facility plan for the branch, including standards for cleaning, furnishing, signage, maintenance, and storage in conjunction with the Associate Director. 5. Reviews workload statistics and recommends staffing allocations. Reviews and disseminates appropriate circulation and use information to assist Collection Development in materials budget allocation. 6. Assists Collection Development with a collection plan for the branch. Oversees methodical rotation of material. 7. Develops annual goals, with branch staff input, in conjunction with the Associate Director. Develops specific strategies for addressing Strategic Plan objectives. 8. Prepares annual budgets for the branch. Monitors, approves and justifies branch-related expenditures. 9. Actively promotes the library through library programming and within the community. Represents the library within the community as a member of professional organizations and associations. Acts as a liaison with the Friends of the Library committees. 10. Trains staff in use of electronic and print resources. 11. Promotes a culture of excellent customer service to staff and demonstrates it to patrons. 12. Supervises the coordination of the branch’s Friends of the Library. 13. May serve on various District teams. 14. Performs other job-related duties and projects and assumes other responsibilities as assigned.

Under general supervision of the Associate Director of Branch and Outreach Services, directs the operation of two PPLD branch libraries to provide library services and materials to the communities served by the Old Colorado City and Ute Pass Branch Libraries. Actively promotes the library through community outreach and the Friends of the Library. Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: 1. Ability to develop short and long range plans of service for a library branch. 2. Ability to supervise staff including hiring, training, and evaluating performance. 3. Broad knowledge of general subject areas, books, authors, and reading levels. 4. Knowledge of library services, computer programs and electronic resources, organization of library materials, and general office procedures and equipment. 5. Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain good working relationships with library staff and patrons including maintaining confidentiality in transactions. 6. Professional verbal and written skills necessary to communicate effectively with staff, management, and patrons. 7. Organizational and supervisory skills necessary to direct the efficient operation of a branch library. 8. Ability to think and act appropriately under pressure. Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor. 9. Ability to work in groups or teams demonstrating a willingness to contribute ideas, maintain flexibility, and support changes within the organization. 10. Ability to match patrons with materials and services appropriate to their interests and abilities using knowledge of library materials and services and the ability to employ effective reference interviewing techniques. 11. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. 12. Ability to provide efficient, courteous public service and present a positive image of the Library in attitude, appearance, and performance of duties.
