Job Description

The Systems Research Program at Leidos currently has an opening for an Information Specialist in our Greenwood Village, CO office.  The successful candidate will apply organization and analysis, structure, and accessibility to a highly specialized, existing and growing collection of over 5,000 data source items. This position requires a motivated, highly organized and creative individual that can work independently to design and build a Resource Center to serve as the primary repository and archive for the program’s source material and meet the information requirements of the Program’s experts and specialists.  

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

This position will be entrusted with using the tools and techniques of information management to establish a Resource Center that is accessible electronically and physically to a team of subject experts.  The candidate will work with an existing collection consisting of thousands of books, journals, encyclopedias, dictionaries, and articles and elicit input from expert clients.  With these experts, the candidate will propose initiatives, from inception to completion, to include:

 

  • Determining how the Resource Center will be configured, captured, and catalogued;
  • Creating and managing searchable databases;
  • Converting and incorporating existing databases into the new system; and
  • Acquiring appropriate software and other technological means necessary to create, enhance, and maintain the Center.

     

The candidate will follow basic “project management” principles to propose and define a phased approach to this effort with estimated timelines, technology types, costs, and proposed delivery deadlines.  Once established, the candidate will provide ongoing maintenance, evaluation of the Center’s effectiveness, and recommendations for ongoing best practices and methods to optimize the use of the Center, to include the application of metadata for electronic searching and scanning and digitization of library resources.

 

Basic Qualifications

 

Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS/MSLIS/MSIS/MI) or equivalent and demonstrated experience in a Special Library setting required.  Database and knowledge management, a solid working knowledge of library/information automation tools, high proficiency in Microsoft Office products, exposure to online information management techniques and tools, and strong communication skills required. Position requires an efficient, organized, self-directed individual, who can prioritize individual tasks, perform job duties with minimal oversight, respond to urgent requirements in a timely manner, and works well with others. Individual must possess strong attention to detail required to protect classified information and follow procedures for safeguarding classified information without incident. Ability to work independently within a larger team context.

 

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and meet one of three security clearance criteria: 1) have an active SECRET clearance; 2) have SECRET eligibility based on a previous access debrief date within the last two years; or, 3) accept an offer based on a contingency that they must be able to obtain Interim SECRET clearance within 45 days from date of the offer.
