Job Description

What You'd Do

Foster and support community engagement and outreach efforts across the Denver Public Library system to increase awareness of library services and create lifelong library customers.  Develop and implement strategies to increase library access for target populations, including young children and their caregivers as well as older adults who may be combating social isolation and mobility issues. Design system-wide standards for outreach service delivery. Supervise Denver Public Library's bookmobile staff and fleet. Prioritize and plan year-round library participation at special events, making the most of mobile tools and staff to increase library presence in the community.  Work with and across departments and branch locations to consolidate varied outreach-related programs under a single umbrella for improved reporting, resource management and enhanced coordination with community partners. Perform ongoing evaluation of outreach efforts to ensure alignment to our community's changing needs. Work with the Communications and Community Engagement Department to develop partnerships, marketing and communication strategies to enhance outreach efforts. Use the library's community engagement model to understand and support community needs.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours.

You Have

Knowledge of outreach best practices combined with an inspired vision for connecting the people of Denver with their library. Skill developing and implementing outreach strategies for diverse audiences. Skill in collaboration, partnership development and relationship building. Skill in program development, promotion and evaluation. Ability to think and plan strategically. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to use technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made. 

Experience supervising staff and developing schedules.
 
Three years of professional experience organizing the administrative aspects of a program or training program participants.
 
A Bachelor's in Marketing, Communications, Public Affairs, Business Administration or Community Development or related field OR additional appropriate experience.
 
A Master's in Library Science (preferred, not required).
