Job Description

Front Range Community College (FRCC) is the largest community college in Colorado, enrolling close to 30,000 credit students annually. SELECTION PROCESS:  Position will remain open until filled with a priority deadline of April 1st, 2019.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of the campus Vice President, the Director’s responsibilities are varied and include staff, budget, external partnerships, technology infrastructure and strategic planning specific to the library.  This position provides leadership in library services and is responsible for the day to day management of FRCC operations within College Hill Library (CHL), a unique partnership with the City of Westminster.  As such, this position is the primary contact for the City of Westminster Library Director and responsible for collaboration and innovation that serves both institutions.  The Director collaborates with faculty, administrators and staff to acquire, organize and promote the resources necessary to support instruction.  The Director is a resource to the campus and to the college with respect to library services and related academic research.   

Primary Functions

  • Represents and advocates for the library in the college community.
  • Manages the partnership with the City of Westminster and Westminster Public Library (WPL) to assure that library services run efficiently and effectively. Responsible for the relationships and shared programing with the WPL. Commits to collaboration with WPL in advancing shared goals and supporting both institutions.  Analyze the operations and evaluate, make changes or implementations to meet the needs of the college within the partnership.
  • Leads and supervises the FRCC team of librarians in order to assure that library services fully support teaching and learning at FRCC – Westminster, including the Brighton Center.
  • Will be responsible and the point of contact for any facilities or security issues/emergencies that involve the Library, including during off hours such as evenings and weekends.
  • Collaboratively leads and participates with FRCC library staff in the development and implementation of strategic planning for library innovation.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for developing and managing the library budget; works with staff to assure that library resources are appropriately allocated. Prepares or assists in the preparation of various reports, as needed.
  • Provides reference/research assistance to college and public.
  • Develops, delivers and evaluates library-related instruction.
  • Develop and maintain a print and non-print collection for a comprehensive, two-year community college library, including the College Reserve collection. Develop and maintain the book, serials, and electronic college collections to ensure excellent support of the college’s curriculum and accreditations.
  • Cultivates a working knowledge of and participation in information literacy initiatives within the college and CHL.
  • Remains current on trends within library services, particularly as they pertain to community colleges. Initiates improvements based on these trends and campus needs.
  • Serves on relevant library and college committees.
  • Responsible for designing and updating the library website.
  • Manages all aspects of the library's research databases for 3 FRCC campuses, WC, BCC, and OL. This responsibility includes compilation of statistics for the online databases and maintenance of the database authentication system.
  • Staffs service desk and provides library instruction approximately 15-20 hours per week; can include nights, Saturdays, and Sundays as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

REQUIRED EDUCATION

  • Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association regionally accredited post-secondary institution.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in a library to include significant experience with: reference desk, circulation desk and instruction experience.
  • Three years of library management experience and three years of library electronic database management.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Library budget management experience.
  • Website design.
  • Experience working with EXproxy and EBSCO Discovery Service.
  • Experience working in a Higher Education environment.
