Job Description

REPORTS TO: Director, Library

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing first level technical support for online resources and library technology; completes tasks associated with the acquisition, processing and access of library collections; provides excellent customer service and basic reference assistance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Implements and manages electronic resources in the library’s various platforms.
  • Assists librarians with the configuration and administration of library systems.
  • Completes all tasks associated with ordering and maintaining library collections.
  • Provides customer and reference services at the library’s circulation desk.
  • Serves on College committees, as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides first level technical support for library technology, electronic resource access, EZ Proxy, and subscription problems.
  • Works with vendors to resolve functionality and access problems across varied platforms.
  • Implements and activates electronic resources to support granular e-resource discovery.
  • Develops working knowledge of the various integrated library systems and assists with configuration of library applications.
  • Completes all tasks associated with acquisition, processing, and management of library materials for circulation and/or access, includes copy cataloging, completing inventory, etc.
  • Creates and manages metadata records for print and electronic materials.
  • Prepares electronic records of library holdings according to consortium and national standards.
  • Orders, claims, and maintains serials collection; updates holdings in online platforms.
  • Maintains accurate records of all library expenditures, license agreements & statistics.
  • Creates and updates training and procedural documentation.
  • Completes all tasks associated with the circulation desk.
  • Provides paraprofessional reference assistance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate of Arts Degree and two years’ work experience in library services or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of library science, systems, and services.

PREFERENCES:

  • Experience in library technical services; coursework in library science; coursework in computer science.

Working conditions:  Requires skills for succeeding in an office environment, using technology.  Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

Work is performed in an office setting.  Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours.  During course of day, interact with student, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.
