Do you want to be a Director, running your own mini-library on wheels? Learn all aspects of being a director in your Mobile Kingdom (it’s a bookmobile). Head out on the highway in beautiful Northeast Colorado servicing Yuma, Kit Carson, Phillips, Washington and Logan counties. Housed in friendly Wray, CO., the Northeast Colorado Bookmobile Service is accepting applications for the Director position. As Director you will: organize, supervise and direct all functions for daily operation of the Bookmobile; prepare a budget and keep financial records; and, as the Head staff member of three, you will report to a board. Further, you’ll experience firsthand the supportive director community in Colorado through participation with other directors.
This position makes a true difference in the lives of its patrons on a day-to-day basis because the bookmobile brings important library services directly to its patrons. A Master’s Degree in Library Science is preferred, but enthusiasm goes a long way! The pay may be considered low but the experience is undoubtedly rich!
Essential Duties:
Provide direct excellent customer service
Ability to work with diverse communities
Service a wide range of patron ages (babies to seniors)
Be able to keep up-to-date on technologies including computer skills
Provide reference interview techniques and reader's advisory
Be able to bend, load boxes of materials into and out of bookmobile, pull and shelve materials
Create, execute, and evaluate program ideas
Be able to recommend development of and weed materials collection
Connect patrons to community resources
Be outgoing and friendly with a positive attitude
Be able to provide reports, inlcuding financials, to the board and attend meetings
Think strategically
Supervise staff in a supportive manner
Communicate with other Colorado Library Directors
Comply in all ways with Colorado Library Law
Other duties as assigned
Additional Info & Requirements
A valid Colorado drivers license is required or will need to be obtained shortly if moving from another state. A good driving record is essential and will need to be maintained. The bookmobile is based in Wray but there is not a requirement to live in Wray.
Spanish language skills are helpful but not required.
The Community
Under three hours from Denver, Wray and the surrounding cities offer a dramatically lower cost of living over the Denver area. This area is steeped in historical places, endless recreational activities, a rich agricultural heritage, and alternative energies (wind farms). Wray is nine miles west of the Nebraska state line, and 25 miles northwest of the Kansas state line. Wray's amenities include an acquatic center, a museum, a small airport, several parks, a public library that is the heart of the community, and a safe and friendly small town environment. Wray is known as the "All-American City." Enjoy the small town experience and watch the gorgeous sunsets on the plains.
