Job Description

This position is assuming many of the responsibilities for electronic resource management
as well as the more complex aspects of managing print serials. This position also has
programmatic responsibility to identify, design and implement special projects related to the
management of both print and electronic resources as well as day-to-day maintenance. This
position serves as a member of the electronic resource troubleshooting team for reported
access problems and takes a special role in defining projects to anticipate and solve
potential access problems.

Essential Job Duties

Print and Electronic Resource Project Facilitation
This position has programmatic responsibility to identify, design and implement special
projects related to the management of both print and electronic resources. Applies
knowledge of the Library ILS, industry and local standards to identify and prioritize resource
management, migration, record integration and optimization, and other special projects to
ensure both print and electronic acquisition and inventory accuracy. Defines project
parameters and devises project plan. Facilitates and monitors project status. Communicates
with stakeholders and constituents as necessary.

Alma ILS Electronic Resource Management
Creates and manages electronic journal records in the OpenURL/Alma ILS for tracking
subscriptions and providing management information. Determines appropriate interfaces and
titles to activate in the ILS with accurate codes and coverage information. Evaluates
information from various resources and utilizes knowledge of standards and local practices
to ensure relevant coding for differing formats and types of records. Ensures platform
changes and publisher title transfers are reconciled with the ILS. Maintains permanent links
for the Database of Databases. Writes and maintains procedures for handling electronic
resources as assigned. Adds and manages stanzas to the EZproxy configuration file to
ensure remote access. Responsible for maintaining and organizing the EZproxy
configuration file as resource URLs change. Refers server-level maintenance when required
to Academic Computing and Network Services (ACNS).

Electronic Resource Troubleshooting
Serves as a member of the troubleshooting team for reported electronic resource access
problems. Engages a systematic troubleshooting decision process to determine the source
of electronic resource access problems. Performs preliminary research to determine the
source of access problems. Determines which system tools are most suitable in analyzing
and resolving access problems and inaccuracies within the ILS and how best to solve the
problem; implements solutions. Contacts and collaborates with vendors as necessary to
solve electronic resource access problems. Communicates with constituents to ensure
access problems are addressed and offers solutions when possible; establishes timely
follow-up practices with constituents.

Print Serials Receiving
Records receipt of complex print library materials on the library’s ILS. Contacts vendors or
publishers to resolve problems with received materials. Creates, updates and manages
serials holdings records on the ILS. Initiates title status change procedures and gathers
supporting documentation to be forwarded to cataloging staff for further processing.
Resolves receipt problems and analyzes data in order to claim materials that are not
received when expected. Searches library stacks, vendor and publishers’ websites and other
library catalogs as necessary to verify the need to claim issues.

Required qualifications:  Three years (full-time, 40 hours/week) of experience using integrated library systems to manage both print and electronic library materials; including providing technical services such as cataloging/classifying resources and/or serials/monograph receiving.

  • Ability to navigate computer programs efficiently with demonstrated proficiency in MS Office and integrated library systems (e.g. Alma, Voyager, Millennium)
  • Experience working with and providing access to electronic journals
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with others using clear verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated professional written communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills including the ability to maintain positive interactions with students, staff, and faculty
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and re-focus attention and efforts when priorities change
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while paying critical attention to detail
  • Demonstrated critical thinking/ problem-solving and decision-making skills

The Community

The Acquisitions and Metadata Services work unit of Morgan Library exists to manage the acquisition of all electronic resources, print serials and standing orders, and to provide the users and staff of CSU Libraries with accurate records of these holdings in the online catalog. Additionally this work unit acquires, processes and maintains depository and non-depository Federal and Colorado government publications in all formats, including e-books and maps, and provides users and staff of CSU Libraries with accurate records of these holdings in the online catalog.
