Job Description

What You'd Do

Serve as DPL Business Reference Specialist at the Central Library.  Collaborate with Reference Services colleagues and the Collection Development Office to develop appropriate services and collections to meet the needs of business reference customers.  Create positive experiences for customers by performing professional library work including reference service, reader and media advisory and collection maintenance. Staff busy reference service points, serving a diverse clientele of all ages. Participate in community outreach and programming, focusing on networking with local small business agencies, marketing library business reference services and providing bibliographic instruction related to business reference resources for customers, community partners and staff. Coordinate Bizboost small business appointment service, including overseeing scheduling of appointments and training librarians to provide effective Bizboost service. Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers and library administration. Work with department Manager and Librarians to develop, design and implement services targeted to business reference customers.

You Have

Extensive knowledge of reference resources and information architecture. Skill in conducting effective reference interviews and information literacy instruction for customers with different levels of literacy or technology abilities. Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information, both orally and in writing. Skill in providing leadership. Skill in establishing, evaluating and maintaining effective community partnerships through outreach and networking.  Ability to self-motivate in constantly learning and sharing about new reference resources. Ability to effectively provide in-depth reference service to people from all backgrounds and age groups in a variety of formats (in-house, telephone, online chat, e-mail and mail). Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to act as in charge librarian in absence of department supervisory staff. Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

A Master's in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.

Two years of post-MLS professional-level work in a library.

Knowledge of local, state and national small business agencies and other organizations that aid small businesses (preferred, not required).

Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service (preferred, not required).

Experience in chat reference (preferred, not required).

Spanish language fluency (preferred, not required).

Additional Info & Requirements

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers depend on qualifications and typically do not exceed the midpoint.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include evening and weekend shifts.
