Job Description
Duties
Identify, evaluate, and select appropriate materials according to Collection Development theories and practices
Determine the strengths and weaknesses of existing collections and resources
Ascertain, analyze, and assess the needs of Library patrons and staff
Designs and performs appropriate and efficient procedures for materials selection
Identifies, collects, and analyzes appropriate data
Prepares reports and presentations relevant to department activities and responsibilities
Manages spending within established budgets in assigned collection areas
Manages the library’s book groups including the Book Club Kits
Plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates library programs to meet the objectives
identified in library planning documents, and community needs, expressed or perceived.
Represents the library on various community or professional bodies, as required or assigned.
Job Requirements
Knowledge of current collection development principles and techniques and ability to apply
them
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work activities in an efficient and streamlined manner
Familiarity with electronic methods and resources to analyze and evaluate collections
Effective oral and written communication and public relations skills
Experience with automated systems and electronic databases and resources
Willingness and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team
environment
Extensive working knowledge of reference resources, in both print and non-print formats.
Minimum Qualifications
Master Degree in Library Science with a minimum of two years collection development experience
(public libraries preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
