Job Description
K-8 Library/Media Center Assistant
Accountable to the K-8 Librarian, the K-8 Library/Media Center Assistant will assist the librarian with the tasks required to effectively operate the library/media center and create effective and engaging programming and displays to encourage overall library use. This position will teach students how to access information, support instruction, and assist teachers and support the librarian in the daily instruction of K-5 specials classes.
Supervises: This is a non-supervisory position.
Compensation: This is a 10-month, full-time, hourly position. Pay is dependent upon experience. The school participates in the Colorado Public Schools Retirement System PERA.
Essential Functions:
- Plans, initiates and carries to completion, clerical, secretarial and administrative activities related to the operation of the school’s library.
- Maintains student library use records and accounts including overdue notices.
- Shelves books and other items.
- Maintains library materials inventory; receives and processes new library materials.
- Supports students in small group settings and during whole-group instruction.
- Supports design and implementation of program initiatives (e.g. engaging high school student library/media center engagement, book drives, book fairs, etc.)
- Supervises students visiting or working independently in the library.
- Creates engaging displays and bulletin boards in the library throughout the year.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Ability to perform several tasks concurrently under varying conditions.
- Ability to exercise tact, good judgment, and initiative when interacting with students, faculty, and parents.
- Skill in operating computers, laminators, and other essential equipment for the successful operation of a school library.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently.
- Willingness to take direction and accept constructive feedback from supervisor.
- Service oriented to support students, staff and families.

- Flexibility and creativity.
