Job Description

BROAD SCOPE OF POSITION: It is the mission of the Pikes Peak Library District to inform, empower, inspire, and entertain through library services and resources that enrich individual lives and build community. This position helps fulfill the mission of the Library by configuring and maintaining the Integrated Library system of the Library. Under the supervision of the IT Officer, the ILS Analyst manages the entire software product life cycle for our integrated library automation system. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Organizational Analysis, Negotiation, and Instruction • Performs analysis of our organization to determine the policies, procedures, and work flow that our Integrated Library System must honor. • Negotiates with departments and work units to refine and, if necessary, modify existing policies, procedures, and work flow to best fit the realities and constraints of ILS software. • Instructs both individuals and organizational units about the ILS product considering local conventions and the product's performance in real-world conditions. • Assists managers with business decisions and performance audits through extracting ILS data. • Assists managers and other PPLD staff with the configuration and production of reports and other data mining techniques. Produces reports for staff when necessary. 2. Vendor Analysis and Negotiation • Examines automation vendors to determine the contents of their product line, how their products work together, their product strengths, and their product's weaknesses. • Analyzes vendor products to determine if there are potential tools that our organization is not exploiting or tools that we need to craft beyond the ILS vendor product line. • Forecasts vendor development efforts and marketplace movement so that our organization can respond to changes. • Attends appropriate vendor conferences as a representative of the PPLD. • In conjunction with the IT officer, negotiates with vendors to obtain custom programming and feature enhancements in the ILS product line. 3. Software Installation, Analysis, and Testing • Develops migration plans between ILS systems or our ILS system and other software utilities. • Determines the parameters that need to be set so that the software can meet organizational demands. • Develops security and profile procedures to provide the appropriate level of system access to staff. • Assists in the maintenance of production and test servers housing ILS databases or software. • Prepares installation and upgrade schedules. Determines the suitability of patches, upgrades or enhancements for the PPLD system, and ascertains the timing of such upgrades. • Installs software in both test and production environments. • Monitors the ILS software for discrepancies that impact service to both our internal and external customers. • Works with vendor helpdesks and other support personnel to address trouble issues or questions concerning the ILS. Tracks outstanding tickets with vendors and follows up on issues concerning the ILS and related operations. • Configures the software for economical use of disk space and memory. • Runs reports and processes as appropriate to the maintenance and proper operation of the ILS. 4. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Info & Requirements

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES: 1. Familiarity with general library organization, mission, departmental tasks, and work flow. 2. Knowledge of Integrated Library System vendors, trends, and marketplace. 3. Experience with the ILS product line, databases, and working relationships. Administrative experience with the current ILS database (SirsiDynix Unicorn) highly desirable. 4. Demonstrated analytical skill applied to software and technology trouble-shooting. 5. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills when interacting with computer users. Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical computer users, exhibiting patience and professionalism. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Requires a Master's Degree in Library Science, Computer Information Systems, or equivalent background and experience. 2. Requires three or more years of experience in working in libraries with ILS software. Experience with SirsiDynix Unicorn highly desirable. 3. Requires a valid Colorado driver's license, the state required minimum amount of automobile insurance, and use of a personal vehicle to travel between branch libraries as necessary (with per mile reimbursement). 4. Requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment, a “whatever it takes” work ethic, and an excellent customer service attitude. Bilingual ability is a plus in serving our diverse patrons.
