Job Description

Come join a fun and collaborative Children's and Teen department as our new Bilingual Children's Librarian! Under the supervision of the Head of Children’s and Teen Services, this position provides bilingual English-Spanish services to children, teens, families, and their caregivers. Assist Library patrons at a public reference desk in the Children’s and Teen section of the Library. Interview patrons by telephone, email, or in person to determine patron needs. Locate desired information or library materials for all patrons. Instruct / assist patrons in the use of library resources, both print and online. Assist patrons with their technology needs. Recommend reading materials for purposes of education, information, and recreational reading. Increase our connections to and support of Longmont’s Spanish speaking families and youth through outreach, programming, storytimes, reference work, and collection development. You support diversity, inclusion, and equity for all, and work toward removing barriers to access. Will assist the Library as a whole in creating Spanish language materials in a variety of formats for all ages. Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City of Longmont Attributes.

Additional Info & Requirements

Fluency in Spanish and English is required, as is experience working with Spanish speaking populations. Candidates will be asked to take a Bilingual language test. Experience working with children and teens from a diversity of backgrounds in a Library setting is strongly preferred. MLS from an ALA accredited university or working towards the degree is preferred. Schedule includes at least one night a week and some weekend hours.
