Job Description

Are you passionate about customer service? Do you love to guide students through the research process? Are you a degreed librarian, recent graduate with an MLIS, or a currently enrolled graduate student in a library science program? If so, we have a fantastic opportunity for you to gain professional academic library experience!  Apply today for the Reference Assistant position at the Arapahoe Community College Library. We seek a motivated team player who is eager to learn by doing. Duties will include providing research help to students, great customer service at the Research Help and Circulation desks, maintenance of the serials collection, and special projects at ACC’s main and extension campuses.

Our ideal candidate will be able to work weekday hours, Saturdays, and an occasional weeknight as needed. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required to work at our extension campuses in Castle Rock and Parker. The Reference Assistant will report to the Head of Reference and will work from August to Mid-December with the possibility of a contract renewal for Spring 2020 (January – mid-May).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Knowledge of best practices in reference interactions

·         Knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

·         Knowledge of web-based applications and ILS systems

·         Completed coursework in reference

·         Ability to interact with a diverse population

·         Strong interpersonal communication skills

·         Detailed orientated

·         Must be able to work Saturdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         In-person reference experience in Public or Academic libraries

·         Reference experience using an online chat service in Public or Academic libraries 

SALARY:

$16 - $20 per hour depending on degree and experience

HOURS:

·         20-25 hours per week includes weekdays, Saturdays, and occasional weeknights

·         9 month contract is for Fall and Spring Semesters, off over the summer months
