Arapahoe Libraries is looking for a full-time Security Specialist. This person will patrol the interior and exterior of the buildings, remain calm under pressure, and provide outstanding customer service to our patrons and staff. We are a progressive library with tools and toys that we love to share with our patrons. The Security Specialist will help us monitor these assets, to ensure we can provide these for the entire community.

SECURITY SPECIALIST
Location: Various Arapahoe Libraries as needed.
Reports to: Supervisor, Safety & Security.
Position: 40 hours, full-time, non-exempt position.
Hours: Schedule will vary. Flexibility is required, but may include shift assignments during the hours of:
- Monday - Thursday - 9am - 9
- Friday & Saturdays - 9am - 7
- Sundays - 12pm - 6
Base Rate: $13.41 - $16.44
Role: To provide visible security presence and overall asset protection to Arapahoe Libraries.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
30% PATROL - Patrols library buildings and property by roving and monitoring patrons and employees in regard to theft, misuse of computers, behavior on the property, and providing assistance and directions to patrons, communicating with employees on safety and providing visible security with the mind set of de-escalating in order to keep the library a safe and secure place to visit and work.
30% ASSET PROTECTION - Monitors physical assets and patron behavior by monitoring property, securing facility after hours, notifying appropriate library staff for security reasons, working with security vendors on security issues, monitoring security cameras and patrons, completing and following up on incident reports, and monitoring trends in order to keep all library employees and assets safe.
40% CUSTOMER SERVICE - Provides customer service to patrons by greeting patrons, giving directions, answering general questions about library facilities and policies, and monitoring the library for appropriate patron behavior in order to keep the library a safe and enjoyable service to use.
Qualifications:
Six months to two years of similar or related experience, preferred.
Ability to pass a criminal background check, required.
High School diploma, or equivalent, required.
Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required.
Ability to walk and stand up to 100% of the time during shift, required.
Basic technology skills for Windows, and Outlook, preferred.
Ability to quickly travel between Library facilities as needed and have reliable transportation, required.
Ability to maintain a positive, friendly demeanor and remain calm under pressure, required.
Ability to professionally and calmly de-escalate situations, required.
Ability to work with patrons of varying backgrounds, required.
Certified in CPR, First Aid, and AED, preferred, or must have the ability to attain certification within 90 days of employment.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, integrity, discretion and trust.
Passionate about the mission of public libraries. Comfortable with the principles of intellectual freedom.

Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County.
