The Access Services Librarian connects people to the information, ideas, tools and skills they need to prosper and succeed in a rapidly changing technological environment. Designs and implements programs and services aligned with the city, department, and library strategic goals. Supervises assigned personnel. Actively promotes use and value of library resources and services and may represent the library in the community.

III. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Serves on the Library Division leadership team. Assists in the development of policies and procedures.
Plans, organizes, schedules, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned staff. Recommends selection of staff and provides for staff training and professional development.
Oversees and maintains patron account information. Handles patron inquiries, correspondence and complaints regarding patron accounts. Oversees patron and circulation functions of the integrated library system, including management of computer hardware, peripherals, and related equipment.
Oversee local history collection and information, programming and collection development.
Oversee mail services and assigned staff for the Civic Center Building.
Oversee customer service hub and assigned staff for the City of Englewood.
Processes and reconciles library deposits and reports. Provides administrative support for the Library Division.
Provides assistance to guests using library-supported technologies and resources and offers basic training in use of new and emerging devices and digital resources. Guides people to information and resources that meet their individual needs. Stays abreast of new publications, information resources, and creative works in a wide variety of formats.
Designs, delivers and evaluates programs, services and experiences that align with the city, department, and library strategic goals. Oversees Access Services.
Understands and is knowledgeable about the City of Englewood and the surrounding community. Cooperates and builds partnerships with schools, businesses, other City departments, civic and community groups to leverage library assets.
Creatively promotes and markets library resources, programs and services.
Assumes the duties and responsibilities of direct reports.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
Act as the Person in Charge (PIC) when needed.
May recruit, train, and coordinate volunteer activities.
May represent the Library at community or professional events and meetings. Stays informed about City and community issues.
May help maintain up-to-date information on policies and procedures for both guest and staff access. Ensures work area, equipment, and supplies are well maintained.
Performs other duties as assigned.
IV. PREPARATION AND TRAINING
Education: Masters of Library and Information Science degree or related.
Work Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in a public library environment. Supervisory and/or Team Lead experience preferred.
Certifications and/or Licensures: None
Required Driver’s License: Yes
An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
V. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of:

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and similar common software applications.
Skills and Abilities:
Technology and computer skills - Advanced skills in use of information and media technologies, Microsoft Office Suite, Integrated Library Systems, common software applications, and personal technology devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Communication - Advanced communication skills required in customer service to provide superior user experiences. Strong written, oral, and digital communication skills required. Public speaking needed to present programs.
Analytical - Strong skills required to deduce patrons’ needs by using reference interviewing methods. Also required to evaluate collection materials and programs. Strong analytical skills needed to problem solve on the spot and handle emergency situations.
Mechanical - Basic skills needed for routine operation and problem solving of library equipment, including but not limited to computers, smart phones, tablets, printers, and copiers.
General Management - Basic skills needed to allocate budget for programs. Intermediate to advanced management skills in order to coordinate and direct the activities of personnel.
Mathematical - Advanced mathematical skills required to reconcile cash reports, prepare deposits and prepare budget information.
VI. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in a standard library environment, requiring standing for extended periods of time. Work may also be performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to perform occasional lifting (up to 15 lbs). Job requires visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment for extended periods of time.
