Job Description

The University of Idaho Library seeks an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented individual to fill the position of Instructional Technology Librarian. Situated within the User and Research Services department, this position will lead the development of a holistic, user-centered framework for library instructional technology. This position will work closely with the Instruction Coordinator and other instructional librarians to improve and streamline existing instructional technology applications, identify emerging applications to facilitate library instruction and the user experience, and work directly with students, staff, and faculty using instructional technology. This position will also serve as the library liaison to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and its statewide extension offices. The ideal candidate will have an agile, flexible, and curious approach to working with instructional technology, a collaborative spirit and a team orientation, and the ability to adapt to changing technological landscapes.

Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and assess a library-wide instructional technology toolkit; communicate expertise in instructional technology best practices; develop, create, and integrate web-based instructional content such as tutorials, videos, podcasts, and infographics; serve as lead librarian for the Studio, the UI library’s audio-visual suite; investigate opportunities to further integrate the library into existing and emerging university software platforms such as BBLearn; build the library’s capacity for audio, video, and web production; provide general reference service; serve as the college liaison to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and its statewide extension offices, including delivering disciplinary library instruction and managing disciplinary library collections.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree from an ALA-accredited library program or the equivalent.
  • Demonstrated service orientation and focus on user experience.
  • Evidence of teaching abilities and virtual or in-person classroom experience.
  • Familiarity with and curiosity about the current and future uses of technology in a learning environment.
  • Experience developing instructional content such as web tutorials, videos, audio, and infographics.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a collegial environment.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to meet requirements for promotion and tenure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous public services experience, or experience providing reference or instruction in an educational setting.
  • Experience with instructional technology applications such as learning management systems, library guides, lecture recording software, and graphic design applications and software.
  • Familiarity with pedagogical best practices in areas of information literacy, instructional design, distance learning, instructional technology.
  • Experience in selecting and developing library collections.
  • Subject expertise in agriculture, life sciences, or family and consumer sciences.
