Job Description

The University of North Carolina Wilmington is recruiting for a Business Librarian: https://jobs.uncw.edu/postings/16066. The Business Librarian engages with faculty, students, and staff in the Cameron School of Business and the Communication Studies department via information literacy instruction, research collaboration, outreach and partnership efforts, and collection management. The priority consideration deadline is October 28.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborates with faculty to create, provide, and assess information literacy instruction for courses where information literacy skills are in development.
  • Provides dedicated research assistance and scholarly communications outreach to the students, faculty, and staff of assigned departments.
  • Ensures that the library’s collections adequately support the curricular and research needs of the students, faculty, and staff of the departments it serves by ordering relevant materials.
  • Actively engages with assigned departments, which includes collaborative programming such as workshops, panel discussions, exhibits, etc.
  • Teaches information literacy sessions to students in First Year Seminar and English Composition courses.
  • Provides dedicated support to the Cameron School of Business and the department of Communication Studies.
  • Serves as Randall Library’s functional expert on business, nonprofit, market, and industry data tools, both free and subscription-based (for example, ABI/INFORM, Mergent Online, IBISWorld, and Standard & Poor’s NetAdvantage)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in academic library services/resources.
  • Strong public service orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both on teams and independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment and workplace and an ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty and student population.

Preferred formal education, professional skills, and work experience

  • Experience providing information literacy instruction and research assistance in an academic library.
  • Experience with electronic resources, information technologies, and collection management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in academic library services/resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating online tutorials or modules and integrating information literacy instruction into online courses.
  • Experience with business research tools such as ABI/INFORM, Mergent Online, IBISWorld, and Standard & Poor’s NetAdvantage.
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in business, economics, marketing, accounting, communications, or a related field.
