Job Description

The position will be based in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Online Resources & Services Librarian is part of the SMHS Library Resources team, and the duties of the position include:

  • Manages the life cycle of electronic resources, including purchasing and renewal, licensing, discovery and access, maintenance, and evaluation.
  • Develops, implements, and documents processes and workflows related to electronic resources.
  • Provides opportunities for librarian training on new and updated resources and platforms; collaborates with Information Resources for librarian training on educational technologies.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues and serves as technical liaison to electronic resources vendors.
  • Proactively explores new technologies to identify opportunities to streamline administration, improve library services, and optimize accessibility.
  • Provides administration of the Integrated Library System (ILS), including user management and general ILS administration for circulation, cataloging, electronic resources, and public access.
  • Manages cataloging of library materials; assures appropriate community access to physical and electronic content.
  • Provides access to locally produced materials created by SMHS and its community members.
  • Assists the library director with collection development.
  • Assists with circulation front-desk management and service.
  • Participate in professional activities. Assist with special projects as needed.

Competency Requirements:

  • Knowledge of database searching strategies.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of technology tools, including mobile devices and web applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a strong service orientation.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to local, state, and national events.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in library/information science, from a program accredited by the American Library Association or equivalent.
  • One to three years professional library experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with electronic resource.
  • Experience with one or more integrated library systems.
  • Record of active participation in relevant professional organizations.
  • Membership in the Medical Library Association’s credentialing program, the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP).
  • Customer service experience.
