Job Description
Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) is looking for a standout leader to be our Assistant Director of Community Engagement. In this position, you will help advance our mission, vision, values, and brand through coordinated efforts to ensure that the library is recognized and valued as a key partner in the civic life of Jefferson County. Major accountabilities include strategic direction and oversight of community engagement, partnerships, volunteerism, promotions and marketing, graphics design and production, and corporate messaging. This position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119 and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association. Reports to the Director of Strategy and Engagement.
Essential Duties
Community Engagement: Promotes system-wide alignment by effectively communicating JCPL strategy, budget, brand, and success through the development, coordination, and implementation of broad corporate messaging and production of key corporate documents for both internal and external audiences. Develops a strategic framework for JCPL's partner program and initiatives. Ensures JCPL participation in key community groups. Directs the Partnerships team and supports relationship with Library Foundation. Directs and oversees community engagement initiatives, including community surveys and other inputs, stakeholder relations, partner relations, collective impact initiatives, volunteerism, and media relations. Develops and recommends corporate messaging to address key JCPL and community issues and interests. Leads the strategic marketing committee. Directs and oversees promotions and marketing, including brand positioning and messaging, marketing initiatives and campaigns, copywriting and storytelling, advertising and social media engagement. Oversees the work of the graphics team in the design and production of corporate and collateral materials. Assists the Strategy and Engagement Director with crisis communications; oversees department contributions to JCPL's Continuity of Operations Plan; manages Colorado Open Records Act requests.
Supervision & Management: Administers or recommends routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including interviewing applicants, evaluating performance, and taking corrective action. Anticipates and solves problems as non-routine situation arise. Ensures adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards. Assists in the recruitment and promotions of division employees. Assigns, trains, directs, and supervises division employees. Serves as a member of the JCPL's Director Team. Develops and monitors the budget to support the division. Provides input to annual plans and budgets and assists with system-wide initiatives. Contributes to department evaluations and reports. Collaborates and coordinates with others in cross-functional teams to accomplish JCPL and division goals and objectives.
Administrative Functions: Works independently or as part of a team to complete special projects that enhance the overall effectiveness of the division; attends team and other meetings, participates on committees and project teams, contributes to division planning and budgeting. Maintains project budgets as assigned. Assists Strategy & Engagement Director with allocation of resources to deliver effectively on organizational strategy. Uses and continually develops leadership skills and participates in ongoing professional development. Makes decisions on the release of information in compliance with laws governing patron confidentiality.
Additional Info & Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in communications, public administration, or other related field. Position allows for an equivalent combination of education and/or training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Minimum of 5 years related experience; to include a minimum of two years supervisory experience.
Colorado Driver's License at time of hire.
Professional certification preferred.
On call 24/7, may work some evenings, weekends and holidays.
