Job Description

Position will provide reference assistance in the Children's Room to children, young adults, caregivers, and other individuals working with children. Additional responsibilities include providing reference assistance using community, text, and electronic resources, including online searching; conducting tours and story times; creating displays; developing special programs; assisting with the development and delivery of children's programs and patron education; reviewing, recommending materials, and collaborating on collection development; and establishing and managing relationships with outside agencies and organizations. Reports to the Head of Children's Information Services.

The Community

Lakewood Library celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2007 with a complete remodel to the existing building. When reopened in late August patrons found they now had a study room, numerous additional computer stations, a beautifully remodeled children's room and a spacious teen area. Lakewood library serves an area with 144,100 residents in the northern half of Lakewood, Jefferson County's largest city. The service area's population is diverse with a growing number of Spanish speakers. Lakewood Library is in a residential neighborhood just a few blocks from a busy commercial area. The library's staff of 23 provides reference services for children and adults, access to Jefferson County's extensive Online Library, about 188,000 items on its shelves, access to extensive law and government documents collections, and numerous free programs for all ages, including story times for children. The library's meeting room is a popular place for community gatherings.
