Job Description

The University of Idaho Library seeks an Access Services Librarian for a tenure-track, 12-month appointment. This position oversees day-to-day operations and provides active leadership of a dynamic unit that is responsible for circulation, reserves, stacks maintenance, and resource sharing. The Access Services Librarian helps implement department goals and initiatives to further user-centered patron services and resources.

Reporting to the Head of User and Research Services, the successful candidate will: manage, supervise, and oversee access services operations and personnel; analyze and revise access services workflows, policies, and procedures in support of a dynamic, service-centered environment; lead unit efforts to gather and analyze data about library spaces and patron services in support of evidence-based decision-making. The successful candidate is forward-thinking, service-oriented, and a proactive and collaborative supervisor.

Required Qualifications• ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library and Information Science
• Substantive experience in one or more areas of access services: circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan, document delivery, or consortial borrowing
• Demonstrated proficiency with an integrated library system (ILS) or library services platform (LSP)
• Explicit commitment to providing outstanding customer service
• Evidence of scholarly engagement in the field of library or information sciences, or other evidence of ability to meet requirements for promotion and tenure
Preferred Qualifications• Experience supervising, training, mentoring, and motivating staff and/or student employees
• Experience with quantitative or qualitative data collection and analysis, and experience in data-informed decision-making
• Evidence of project management skills including the ability to organize and prioritize tasks and manage time
• Demonstrated awareness of trends and best practices within access services and the larger library profession
• Experience related to the assessment of library initiatives
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions• Ability to lift and/or otherwise move 20 lbs.
• Ability to work in an environment that may contain dust.
Degree RequirementListed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
