Job Description

Administers the District’s integrated library system and its servers. Coordinates operation of the system with the vendor, staff from Information Systems (IS) and other district personnel. Manages a district-wide technical services department; authorizes and controls all aspects of building and modifying the library database. Develops and promotes good community relations among various school and community clientele. Salary: $51,181 minimum; additional compensation commensurate with experience Work Hours: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm Days: 240 Start Date: 07/01/08 1. Is responsible as system administrator for the integrated library system, for the ongoing operation and security of the system and its UNIX and Windows servers; functions as the primary technical contact with the system's vendor; installs software upgrades and new modules; updates the policies and user authorizations as needed; sets up and schedules reports; writes documentation for server functions handled by IS operators (backups, shutdowns, etc.); works with system vendor and IS personnel to optimize system performance and enable interfaces with other district systems. 2. Manages a technical services department in all aspects of its daily operations; maintains a high level of departmental work output; provides service accountability to school library personnel. Investigates and resolves departmental hardware and software issues and problems; designs and redesigns workflow to keep pace with changes in technology. 3. Establishes and is accountable for all library technical services policies. Interprets and disseminates technical information on all related international changes in library automation and cataloging standards; anticipates and prepares for forthcoming changes. 4. Authorizes and performs/assigns all authority work for online catalog; performs all global changes to the online catalog; assigns and supervises database maintenance and enhancement projects; protects the integrity of the bibliographic database. 5. Hires, supervises and trains all staff members to perform library technical services operations; writes documentation and training materials; solves cataloging and processing questions and issues. 6. Evaluates new releases of library system software; participates in the vendor's annual user group meetings and other professional and district-level meetings; provides bibliographic/system training to other school library personnel as needed. 7. Composes and reviews original cataloging for input into the OCLC international database; handles complex copy cataloging problems. 8. Monitors departmental budget; evaluates, selects and authorizes the purchase of hardware, software, equipment and supplies; proposes future budgets. 9. Compiles statistics in all areas of accountability; disseminates reports and data to relevant district personnel. 10. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
