Job Description

Provides research desk service on an on-call basis. Schedule includes mornings, weekends and/or evening shifts and will could be the sole research staff member during the shift. • Provide research service to students, faculty and staff at Colorado College and the wider Colorado Springs community on an occasional basis. • Handle unusual or emergency situations and exercise appropriate judgment and problem solve in dealing with patrons. • Stay abreast of new developments at Tutt Library, especially changes to databases, resources and policies affecting research service provision. • Participate in a minimum of four Research Services Meetings per year (or other in-house professional reference development sessions) in order to stay current on research resources. • Reads Research Services, Collection Development, Public Services, and Staff Meeting minutes as well as other library-disseminated materials in order to keep informed of library policy changes. • Reports problems that arise at the Research Desk to the Natural Sciences Librarian for review.

Additional Info & Requirements

Required Qualifications: Currently studying towards an MLS degree plus previous related experience. Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in using print and electronic research resources; Internet searching abilities. Excellent customer service skills and one-on-one bibliographic instruction skills essential. Knowledge of Microsoft Office. Operate standard equipment such as personal computer and laser printer, as well as the ability to do technical troubleshooting. Must be able to work mornings, nights and weekends. Preferred Qualifications: MLS degree and knowledge of RefWorks.
