Under the direction of the Board of Trustees, the Library Director is responsible for leading the long range library planning and policy development, and managing the strategic plan, budgeting, facility, and staff development/evaluation. The Library Director also oversees day-to-day operations including technology, acquisitions, collection development, publicity, and programming. Minimum qualifications include a 4-year college degree in library science, education, or related field; 2 years library experience, and State Library of Iowa Public Library Director Endorsement (or earning endorsement within 2 years.)
Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Library Science/Library Information Science; experience in library administration; and 5 years of progressively responsible library experience with 2 years in library administration.
Our ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; a strong service and community involvement ethic; experience conducting or directing library automation, information technology, cataloging, and collection development; the ability to work successfully with employees, the general public, Friends of the Library, Library Board, and City officials. Adaptability, diplomacy, and professional grace are useful character traits.
Salary range: $52,000 - $60,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience, with an excellent benefits package.
