Job Description

Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA), the Corrigan Solari University Archivist and Historian provides curation, collection management, preservation, and solicitation of the permanent record of the University and papers of its faculty and student organizations. This work includes oversight of the UO permanent record, collaboration with campus records management, leading research and reference services about UO history, and serving as point person for instruction activities led by UO faculty with SCUA collections.

In collaboration with SCUA staff, the University Archivist and Historian acquires, appraises, and manages the permanent university administrative records and other university materials of permanent historic value in all formats; collaborates with the curator of manuscripts in the acquisition and curation of faculty papers; and oversees and coordinates the department’s multifaceted instruction program, providing consistent and professional information to faculty, staff, researchers, and the public. In coordination with the Director of SCUA, the University Archivist and Historian develops policies, procedures, and strategic planning for the collection. The Archivist also serves as point person for researching and documenting university history and providing in-depth research, reference, and instruction services related to university history and archival collections led by teaching faculty of the University. The position provides outreach and promotion of the collection to students, faculty, and outside researchers, and hires, trains, and supervises university archive student staff and graduate employees.

The University Archivist and Historian participates in appropriate professional development activities and organizations to stay current with trends and practices in the field, and contributes to the University’s goals regarding equity and inclusion.

Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) is the primary repository for the university’s archives, rare books, historic photographs, and one of the largest historical manuscript collections in the Pacific Northwest. As the largest historical repository in the state, SCUA provides extensive public access to its collections and is thus a critically important source of Oregon and Pacific Northwest historical materials to be used for research, publication, and instruction.

Additional Info & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications for Associate Librarian Rank:
• ALA-Accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science with a specialization in archives and records management, OR a Master’s degree in Archival Administration.
• Six years of post-degree progressive leadership experience focused on institutional records in special collections or university archives.

Minimum Qualifications for Senior Librarian Rank:
• ALA-Accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science with a specialization in archives and records management, OR a Master’s degree in Archival Administration.
• Twelve years of post-degree progressive leadership experience focused on institutional records in a special collections or university archives.
